The Early Years
Growing up being the grandson of Fenner Moorcroft, a livestock trader and later owner of the Cradock Abattoir in South Africa’s rural Eastern Cape. Gary, at the age of 10, had his first experience with air-dried meat snacks on his uncle Bill’s farm. There, the day’s hunt, was cut into suitable pieces of meat and hung along lines spun on the sun porch behind wire netting, to dry.
The cool, dry and gentle breeze of pure winter air in the Cradock area created the perfect conditions to naturally dry meat snacks! Through a multi-generational family heritage in the meat industry.
A man dedicated to quality throughout the chain, Gary has developed relationships with well respected farmers who share his passion for doing this right, processing Free Range cattle, sheep and ostrich with the assurance of the highest standards of processing quality and brand integrity.
His passion for healthy living and supplying healthy, whole foods, remains the ethos of the business which he manages alongside his son, Paul. A strong belief in building long term relationships with buyers based on shared values of Quality, Integrity, Commitment, Loyalty and Growth, has led Stormberg Foods to be a supplier of choice to many stores in South Africa, including one of the country’s top high end retailers.
